There will be an arts & crafts fair in busy Everglades City Saturday, February 23, to coincide with the last day of the annual MSD History & Heritage Festival at the Museum. Art-in-the-Glades under the pavilion in McLeod Park across from the Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Local artists and crafters will offer photos, prints, handmade soaps, jewelry, and other items for sale. And, delicious baked goods will be available for a donation to benefit a local charity.
J.Robert’s Florida Songs Jamboree is preparing its 2019 winter series at the Margood Harbor Theater. The show featuring songwriters who have composed and recorded original Florida music. Every last Friday evening of the month from 6:30 to 9 pm, songwriters take the stage to share tales and original music from Americana and old timey music to heritage blues, southern rock, and trop rock and Caribbean jazz. Marco Island FL– For the Love of Cats, a non-profit committed to saving the lives of cats and kittens in our community, has been selected as a beneficiary of the Community Bag Program from February 20th through March 31st at the local Winn Dixiestore on Marco Island. The Community Bag Program, launched in January 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities shoppers live and work. The program features two reusable Community Bags with a special Giving Tag attached to it that allows customers to direct a donation to a non-profit of their choice upon purchased. For the Love of Cats will receive a $1 donation every time either of the reusable Community Bags are purchased at this location between February 20th and March 31st.
The annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast--is scheduled for Saturday February 23rd at the United Church of Marco Island, 320 North Barfield Drive from 8 until 11am. The breakfast historically has fed over 300 Marco Island residents and visitors on this one Saturday morning, raising considerable funds so that the Club can continue to do its good works.

The Marco Island Lions Club has announced their annual Pancake Breakfast fund raiser Saturday February 23rd at the United Church of Marco Island, 320 North Barfield Drive from 8 until 11am.
The Marco Lions Club uses 100% of the funds raised from their annual Pancake Breakfast to collect and distribute used eyeglasses for those who cannot afford them, screen thousands of adults and children in Collier County for vision and hearing problems, sponsor students for schools for the blind, and support and contribute to Southeastern Guide Dog, Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF), as well as other vision organizations that directly aid the Marco Island community.

Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) celebrates its 25th Anniversary by bringing home the enigmatic Key Marco Cat and other rare 500 to 1,500-year-old Pre-Columbian Native American artifacts discovered on Marco Island in 1896. The artifacts return on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. They will be exhibited at Marco Island Historical Museum January 2019 to April 2021.

But that’s not all -- he operated a telephone service, published newspapers, and provided transportation on ships and buses.
And, he was a big player during the Roaring Twenties in New York City where he hobnobbed with important people and reduced traffic accidents with his “Aunty J. Walker” campaign. He had grown up in Memphis and made his fortune in streetcar advertising which he used to promote charitable causes such as the Boy Scouts.
